When and Why You Should Go for the Lipid-Profile Test

Lipid profile test is a complete cholesterol test, also called a lipid panel. Thus, tests determine the amount of Good and Bad cholesterol in your body.

Cholesterol is an essential component in your body required for survival and proper functioning of the human body. It is a soft, waxy fat that should be present in your body in a certain amount. It maintains the health of your cells. The amount varies as per your gender- a man should get his lipids checked by the age of 35, and a woman should screen her lipids by the age of 45. It is best advised by Pathkind doctors that, one should get their cholesterol (9lipids) tested regularly.

The reason is too much cholesterol in the body gives rise to various health problems:

Who can have a risk of high cholesterol?

  • People who are obese or over-weight
  • Have a family history of diabetes, cholesterol or heart disease
  • Smoke cigarettes or drink alcohol frequently
  • Have an inactive and unhealthy lifestyle

Pathkind labs have all kinds of resources and equipment needed for checking a person’s cholesterol levels. A person diagnosed with heart disease, high blood pressure, or stroke, must get his/ her cholesterol levels checked every six months.

A lipid profile test or complete cholesterol test measures four levels of cholesterol:

  • LDL (Low-density lipoprotein) or ‘Bad Cholesterol’:

If your body has a large amount of LDL, then there are high risks of heart attack, heart disease, or stroke. The LDL amount should be between 70 to 130 mg/dL

  • HDL (high-density lipoprotein) or ‘Good Cholesterol’:

HDL is termed as ‘good cholesterol’ because it removes LDL from your blood, which reduces the risks of heart diseases. 40 to 60 mg/dL denotes healthy levels of HDL.

  • TOTAL CHOLESTEROL: It measures the total amount of cholesterol in the body. It should be less than 200 mg/dL (the lower the number, the better)

  • TRIGLYCERIDES: Your body converts the unwanted calories into triglycerides, which are stored in fat cells later. High levels of triglycerides are present in obese or overweight people, diabetic people, and also those who consume too much alcohol or sweets.

These levels of cholesterol determine the health factors of your body, and hence you must have a regular knowledge about lipid levels in your body. If your test results aren’t in the mentioned range, the doctors at Pathkind will give you a systematic instruction to carry out various tests. Pathkind lab offers all these enhanced tests effectively and without any hassle. We at Pathkind look for customer well-being and satisfaction and value every patient’s life.

How is a lipid profile test or complete cholesterol test performed?

A blood sample is taken by the doctor, preferably in the morning, with 12 hours of fasting. It helps to determine the lipid level in your blood accurately.

This procedure of blood tests is done at Pathkind lab effortlessly by our skilled doctors and is painless. The further process of detecting the lipids in your blood and measuring the levels is also done by Pathkind labs and provide accurate test results.

Further steps to Avoid High Cholesterol

Cholesterol levels are highly associated with the type of lifestyle you have. An unhealthy lifestyle causes a high level of LDL. It can be reduced naturally by making changes in your lifestyle.
